Christmas came early again this year with 'ShoeBox Christmas' project initiated by a group of anonymous volunteers.

What is ShoeBox Christmas you ask? Well to put it in a simple term, it's basically putting together whatever gifts for children you have in mind, pack it in a shoebox and wrap it with love. You can read about it more here on how this project started :)

Just like last year, Boutique Cupcakes has decided to join this wonderful project once again for ShoeBox Christmas 2011!

You can't imagine how happy we were when we saw the photos as well as hearing how excited all the village children were when they received our colourful cupcakes last year.

For this year, more locations will receive lots of Christmas Gifts donated by YOU ;)

The gifts are given batch by batch... and in each batch.. there are about 10 locations will receive surprise Shoebox Christmas gifts from ShoeBox Christmas projects!

Wedding cakes and cupcakes: What theme should i go for?

September has always been a favourite month for us at Boutique Cupcakes :)
Not only it reminded us of our journey during the setting up of our FIRST cafe in Lintas Plaza, but it is also the time where wedding bells are everywhere and surprise birthday parties are happening almost every night!

However, the top question that we've always been asked whenever customers walk in to our shop to order their engagement or wedding cupcakes/cakes is...

What theme should i go for?

Clearly, most of our customer knew what they wanted.. but they are having trouble at expressing it!

So from now onwards, Boutique Cupcakes will post ideas and examples of wedding cakes and cupcakes for your inspiration. Next time you'll come to BC, all you have to do, is show us the photo :) and we'll be happy to do it for you.

Wedding cupcakes / cake theme purely depending on the time of the event.
Be it summer or spring wedding, vintage or garden wedding, floral or beach wedding cakes, you have to decide if your wedding is to be held during the day, or at night... indoor or outdoor.

And why is that you asked? :)

First of all, fondant decoration is suitable at room or slightly below room temperature.. Buttercream however lasts longer.

Secondly, you might want to opt for brighter colour for night events and bolder/darker during the day, as contrast can really bring impact to the overall look of your wedding

Thirdly, the size of your wedding cakes should be relative to the number of wedding guests you are expecting. Will you be serving the wedding cake as a dessert in its own right or as an accompaniment to coffee? Or will it be just for decoration purposes?

Boutique Cupcakes first D.I.Y Fun Class : The Angry Bird Edition

Boutique Cupcakes brought yet another smile to everyone and this time, is through our very first D.I.Y Fun class!!! Wohooo! =D

The DIY fun class was held on the 11th Sept 2011 last Sunday, (same day as the mid-autumn festival) involving 3 groups which consists of 3 mothers together with 2 sons and a daughter.

We were surprised that the little chefs consists more boys than girls XD
And we thought girl loves to bake more than the boys :P

Anyway, the class was conducted by none other than our lovely Ms. Angeline Han, together with 2 others from BC deco team.
Just in case you're wondering, other than having fun learning how to make the current famous smart phone phenomenon i.e. The Angry Bird cake, this class also aimed to give a closer bond between both parents and their children :)

In the D.I.Y fun package, each participants were given an 8-inch cake, a set of colourful fondant for decoration as well as tools for decorating.

Though it was suppose to be a fun D.I.Y class for all 6 of them, it clearly seemed that the children were the ones who were eager to compete with each other on who can create the most beautiful angry bird art work :P
They just couldn't stop looking at each other =D

The class took roughly an hour to finish... and tada~~!!! Look at the finished masterpiece!

Congratulations to all 3 groups especially all 3 little chefs who managed to create such a beautiful Angry Bird cake!

Of course, all participants can bring their masterpiece back home with no doubt, a proud smile on their face =D
We bet eating cake from now on will give a whole new meaning to all 3 groups :)

How was your Christmas celebration last Saturday? Did you get many presents? Surprises perhaps? I know one of our team did. We'd like to say Congratulations to Fara and her soon to be fiance, Julian, for their upcoming engagement!

Introducing CHOCOLATE SEDUCTION!!! (RM6.00)

Chocolate Seduction is a 3 layer combination of Chocolate Ganache, Dark Chocolate Cheese and White Chocolate Cheese! *Hrrmmm~~~ seducing much? =D*

We also involved in HobbyCon 2010, the largest Hobby Convention in Sabah!

During Hobbycon, there were so many anime and cosplay fans walking around. To compliment the event, we came out with anime themed cupcake!

See.. even a giant 'pedo-bear' loves cupcakes =D

For your information, we also co-organised Anime Charachter Design Competition with the Hobbycon organiser to support and discover young local talents in Sabah.

We'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate Maguro Relle, Terry Wong and Tohru for winning the top 3 anime character design!!!

Their work has been displayed at our Cupcake booth in a form of Cupcake topper along with their profile :)

One thing for sure, our Chocolate Chip cookie and Rocky Road was a hot cake! It sold out so fast that the cookie jar empty faster than we thought =D

Wow! It's December already!!!

Day by day, big thanks to our customers and fans, Boutique Cupcakes has grown tremendously and has been adding more and more creative cupcake design and new products in a very short period of time!

This time, we have added a new chiller specially for our new dessert line!

Introducing...

1) Lemon Meringue Tart (RM2.50)

A yummy-licious sweet pastry crust with lemon curd filling and airy meringue! Oooooo!!

Next is..

2) Fragola (RM5.00)

Fragola means Strawberry in Italian. It's a strawberry cheese topped with fresh cream with slices of fresh strawberry! Definitely a must try!

Last but not least..

3) Blueberry Crumble with warm custard sauce (RM3 each!)

To all blueberry fans, this is for you. It is served with oozing warm custard sauce, perfect to be eaten with hot fruit tea OR combined with our cookies! Oooh la la~

Happy Halloween from Boutique Cupcakes!!!

Trick or treat!!!
Halloween is finally here!

So how was your Halloween party celebration everyone?
At Boutique Cupcakes, we had a blast!
And we would like to thank all of our customer who came from 8.30pm till late to celebrate it with us :)
It was such a memorable event ^_^

As you would have known, during the 1 week period before Halloween, Boutique Cupcakes team switched from wearing our cute pink hat to a variety of Halloween themed head band.

Then, few hours before the Halloween party started, Mei brought lots and lots of helium balloon, which we decorated the place and made it so colourful with Orange and Black Halloween theme!

Our baking team, Edy, also baked us finger cookie... which looked... real.. and creepy @_@

Anyways, guests arrived as early as 8pm.
We had fun mingling around and getting to know our customer, while serving our mini Halloween themed cupcakes!
We would also like to thank all bloggers who came and celebrated Halloween with us :)

For kids who dressed up, we presented them a special Halloween treat ;)
Mei and Angeline gave all of them a complimentary movie ticket courtesy of Cathay Cineplex Kota Kinabalu ^_^

It was the highlight of the night to see Noor floating left and right in the kitchen with that black veil covering her face.

It has been 5 days since we last open,
and boy we have to say, it was a VERY BUSY yet filled with SUPERB FUN week!
There were a lot of cupcake lovers coming in and out of Boutique Cupcakes going ooos... and aaaahsss...
Not forgetting customers with last minute take out for engagement, office/friends/family's gathering/birthdays and best of all, looking at kids running in and pulling their mummy's shirt saying 'i want chocolate cupcake!', 'i want pink cream cupcake', and more 'i want this and that..'..

Seeing this, all we could do was smile looking at those loving parents fulfilling their kids demand and in return, we offered them some free sweets and lollipop for the great business introduction :)
We really really hope the good sales and cupcake trend will continue to pick up in Kota Kinabalu :)

Initially when we first open the shop, we plan it to be a take out outlet, with few seats for waiting customer.
But who knows, most of our customer love having their freshly baked cupcakes there together with a hot pot of fruit tea that we bought all the way from Hong Kong! :)
Surprisingly, our location is also perfect and away from direct sunlight, so it's pretty comfy to have an afternoon tea while cathing up with your friends or your love ones.

Hrmm... This calls for plan B.
We will improvise the shop and add more seats in the future ^^

Boutique Cupcakes is officially opened!

Hey guys!

I just got back from the Boutique Cupcakes grand opening.
It was packed with lots of supreme cupcake lovers(!!!) and hundreds of our cupcake is almost finished!!!!
*and we have not even reached half day of our first working day yet!*

The grand opening was held early this morning, and our shop is filled with oh so delicious cupcakes baked by Angeline and her team!
The ribbon cutting ceremony was captured by photographers, reporters, videographer including on-lookers :P
It was sort of a touching moment as this is the day where all of the Boutique Cupcakes team, parents and families had been waiting for months!

The time is not even 11am yet and we already have our first customer!
Our first customer bought 1 dozen of mixed flavour cupcakes :)

Few more customer keeps coming in right after and the kitchen is getting busier and busier XD
Poor Angeline and her kitchen team...
they have been working hard since yesterday till almost midnite!
Without them, there's no delicious cupcakes ;)

Mei on the other hand is in charge of the shop assistants and most of the process concerning the outlet.
This lady boss has not been resting properly and always make sure that ALL Boutique Cupcakes team is well fed ^^

There are those unforeseen little things that we still need to settle to serve you better.
So please bear with us for the first week as we are all still adjusting to our new environment hehe :)

As mentioned in previous post, we STILL take online orders, be it our outlet cupcakes or custom design cupcakes!

Melissa's surprise birthday bash!

Last monday, we received an order for a surprise birthday party for a beautiful lady name Melissa.

Melissa is Fara's (one of our team member) bestfriend who is now residing in Kuala Lumpur.

A month ago, while Mel was pregnant with her baby, Fara presented her with an early congrats gift of chocolate cupcake with buttercream frosting.

Now that Mel is back for Hari Raya celebration with a new family member (her new born daughter: Seri Celestial) and that Mel is done with her post pregnancy 40-days pantang, Fara decided to throw a surprise birthday party and ordered a new flavour for her to indulge into... Vanilla and smooth cream cheese frosting :)

The theme colour picked was yellow and pink, served on a mini cupcake tier which can fit 19 pcs of cupcake.

Beautiful beach wedding cupcakes

Cupcakes take the cake! and just like traditional layered wedding cakes, wedding cupcakes has becoming a trend for an elegant fantasy confections and delicious treats!

Not only it is less expensive, but your guests will enjoy having it as a dessert during the reception or take it home with them in a little cupcake favour box ;)

So in this post, we're gonna share with you one of our beloved customer's beach wedding cupcakes held few days ago at Sunset Bar, Shangrila Hotel! ;)

Meet Mina :)

Mina is a dentist, and she was previously surprised with our cute tooth fairy themed cupcakes during her birthday :)

Now... who would've known..
She is finally married with the love of her life, Joon Mun *insert 'awwww~~~'*

This time, Mina gets to pick her own cupcake theme...
instead of going for the normal sandy neutral brown or an ocean blue, she chose to be vibrant and selected pink and white instead!

Since classiness is part of a must have design for traditional wedding, we spiced it up with an elegant cupcakes cup to go with it :)

Note: Fancy cupcake cups' price depends on the complexity of the design. We can order them online for you :)

As for flavour, we suggested chocolate with buttercream frosting.
Buttercream is great for any occasions.. AND it wont melt so easily ;) as long as you put them at room temperature.

There's no word to describe how happy she was on her big day :)

Ezwan & Sarah's Engagement Ceremony

During the first week of august... especially on a beautiful date, 8.8.2010, there were lots of people doing shop opening, engagement, baby shower and weddings.. and that was also the time where Boutique Cupcakes busy with a handful of orders!

One of our clients who got engaged on the 8.8.2010 were Ezwan and Sarah :)

The theme was a simple pastel pink and yellow with a hint of retro chic.
So this is what we came out with...

Ezwan and Sarah took our event size chocolate cupcakes (slightly smaller than the usual size) with buttercream, together with our cute 'CCTV' like packaging.

They love the simplicity and the practicality of the packaging.
They also requested for a custom made packaging sticker to be added to their package (which you can request too) .

Just in case you are wondering, the packaging price vary from the type of gift box you choose and the sticker's price on the other hand vary depending on the size and the complexity of the design :)

Aww.. isn't she lovely? :)

So sorry for the late of updates. We just had too much fun in Taiwan *heh =P*

Anyway, if you follow us in Facebook, you guys might have known that the Boutique Cupcakes team flew to Taiwan last week to find more inspiration, more cupcakes supplies, as well as some interior decoration for our upcoming outlet in October!

We jumped from shop to shop, and were delighted to find some cupcake supplies that are a bit hard to find in Malaysia.

But to be honest, it wasn't that many.. which we were a biiiiiit dissapointed... but nonetheless, the famous themed cafes and restaurants in Taiwan really saved the day :) And we got SO MUCH inspiration!

We also got to go to many cafes which are famous for their cupcakes and desserts!
We bought SOOOO MANY for tasting that our tummy can't handle eating them anymore @_@

And last but not least, finding fancy and creative deco for our upcoming outlet in October!

Now that our shop design is finished, we CAN'T WAIT for the renovation to start soon! XD

Best of all is that the trip brings the Boutique Cupcakes team closer.

Not to mention extra kilo too =P

UMS Colourful Japanese Cultural Night: The Report

On the night before the event,
we prayed.. prayed and prayed that it won't rain the next day.
With the power of hope... it didn't rain..
Instead...
It was SOOOO hot! XD

The Boutique Cupcakes team arrived at 2.30pm.
It was too early to set up, so we lingered around till 4pm.
And when the cupcakes are out, our booth were swarmed by lots of people!
...and all we could hear was...
"OMG!!!! THAT'S SO CUTE!!!"
"Aaaaa XD KE AIIII"
"Waaaa... Hello Kitty!!! Sushi!!!!"
"OMG! There's Naruto! Wait... One piece too! So many Anime characters!!!"

YuP!
We LOVE hearing that.
For that.. we thank ALL of you, you and YOU who came, bought our cupcakes and supported us till all 500 pcs of cupcakes gone in 4 hours.

How the dog became man's best friend?

It's when their friend a.k.a owner celebrated its birthday for them, that's how!

But in this case, Coffee is a lady's best friend :)

She was raised since little, and it's time to celebrate her birthday!

Samantha's Boutique Opening

Last weekend, our client, who is also an owner to Samantha's boutique, put Boutique Cupcakes incharge to make 145 pcs of cupcakes, for her shop grand opening in Suria Sabah.
The theme was classy yet simple..
Hence, Angeline used Hot pink and Chocolate as the main theme of the event :)

To make Samantha's brand stands out, we used edible icing image to project her logo to her customer while they happily enjoying their cupcakes ;)

A cupcake tier is always a good way of presenting your apertiser/desserts to your guests.
A two-tone colour which contrast to each other is also the best way to show simplicity yet strong message to your customer :)
